From catalogue raisonné: Posed in front of Hutchings' hotel are ten people, eight men and two women. Posted on the wall to the left of the entrance is a broadside with a text that reads: "C.E. Watkins / Yosemite Gallery / Photographer." This view represents a return to the site of an earlier picture (see cat. no. 177) This view was made looking southwest from the north side of the Merced River toward Sentinel Rock.
