Letter from Elizur Wright, New York, [New York], to William Garrison, 1833 Oct[ober] 31st
Description:
Elizur Wright Jr. writes to William Lloyd Garrison informing him he has sent 50 copies of the circular to his office. Wright lists the names of some people he is sending the circular to and asks Garrison to cover "the rest of New England" and then tell him who he has invited. Wright says this will ensure "that no one may be neglected whom it is important to have."
Holograph, signed.
Title devised by cataloger.
On page 2, the letter is addressed to "Wm. Lloyd Garrison Esq No. 11 Merchants Hall Boston (Ms.)" and is postmarked with a red circular stamp reading "New-York Nov 1".
On page 3, a printed letter dated, "New-York, October 29, 1833" and addressed to "Dear Sir" calls for a meeting in Philadelphia on December 4th "to form a National Anti-Slavery Society" (which became the American Anti-Slavery Society). It is signed by Arthur Tappan, Joshua Leavitt, Elizur Wright Jr., and William Lloyd Garrison (probably in Wright's handwriting).
