Letter from Joel M. Halpern to Nettie and Carl Halpern
Description:
Letter written by Joel Halpern to his parents during his hostel tour of Europe. This letter is a fragment, missing later pages but describes some time in Denmark. It is dated September 6 and 7 of 1949 which is the same as another letter written in Sweden with the same dates. This letter describes Halpern's excitement at a trans-atlantic phone call he made to his parents including requesting they pay the cost by sending money to a family member in New York. The letter also includes his impressions of Kronborg castle, which he calls Elsinore and references the 1948 Derek Jacobi film adaptation of Hamlet shot in Kronborg. Halpern also describes an amusement park in Copenhagen called Tivoli. The letter continues with a description of his travel from Copenhagen to Stockholm including the ferry trip to Sweden and the hostel he stayed at once there.
