These pages document Joel M. Halpern’s trip into Lapland from September 15 through September 21, 1949. During this time, he visited Porjus, Jokkmok, Lake Torneträsk and Kiruna. He witnessed a reindeer round-up and a slaughter. He describes the various houses in which he stayed the meals, the clothing people wore, and their habits. These notes were used in writing one of his first published articles, “Swedish Lapland - As a Hosteler Saw It" Hosteling (1950): 6-7.
