Description:
A handwritten copy of protest filed by Captain Elijah Adams of the Brig Hiram of Boston on September 4, 1812 against HMS Guerriere. The Hiram was returning from Spain with a cargo of salt and merchandise when it was stopped by Captain Dacres and HMS Guerriere, detained, plundered, and released on the promise of ransom. The Hiram was later stopped by HMS Africa and allowed to proceed on its voyage.
