Artist Ellen Hannaeur found a Windsor chair for the base of her design. The classic chair, she felt, is appropriate for the Senator Smith's New England life. The lines at the top of the chair also mimic the soft curls of the Senator’s iconic hairstyle and the spokes represent her many accomplishments. Ellen added a book about Senator Smith’s life that contains questions to which visitors can note their answers. The rose-topped pen reminds us of the rose the Senator always wore on her lapel and may be used to write reflections in the book.
