This wooden love seat allows for people to join together as Senator Mikulski herself did by hosting round table meetings and dinners. The bench is simple and unadorned, much like the forthright Senator Mikulski. Laser cut panels on the back of the bench focus on different aspects of the Senator’s life -- her father’s grocery story, Baltimore row houses, and a dining room table where women Senators joined to form a "zone of civility." Other images include the Hubble telescope, a project that the Senator supported, and her alma mater, Mount Saint Agnes College. There is even a pair of pants depicted on the bench; a reference to Senator Mikulski taking on Senate traditions and norms, becoming the first women to wear pants on the Senate floor.
