Additional information accompanying item: Signed J.McBey 1902. The actual etching is enclosed within 6mm. from the edge of the plate. "From the Aberdeen Public Library I borrowed Maxine Lalanne's 'Treatise on Etching.' and I felt that if only I had the tools I could express myself. From a plumber I bought a sheet of copper, polished and grounded it with wax. I set out for 'Point Law' jetty and choosing a secluded corner, drew in the subject with a darning needle. After biting with nitric acid, the printing presented a difficulty. I had no press and the purchase of one was impossible with my limited means. Finally, after many experiments, I at last got a print of sorts by passing the plate and paper through a domestic wooden-rollered mangle, using as a travelling plank a square of linoleum. This impression was so printed." - James McBey.
