Letter from Adin Ballou, Mandon, to Amos Augustus Phelps, Dec. 27 1837
Description:
In reply to Amos A, Phelps’s request, Adin Ballou supplies him with the list of members of the “Massachusetts Association of Universal Restoration,” together with the stance of each person on the subject of slavery. Ballou says that “[o]pposition from proportion of the laity, and the exceeding reproach attached to the name, abolitionist has ... kept back some exertion, and that “the anti abolitionism of some of the ministers goes very far.”
