Letter from Parker Pillsbury, Hyannis, [Mass.], to Samuel May, 25 June 1859
Description:
Pillsbury says he has forsaken the pulpit for the abolitionist cause. He resents May's admonitions and refers again to the discrepancy between Oliver Johnson's characterization of Dr. George Barrell Cheever and the opinion of him expressed by Wendell Phillips. Pillsbury says that Cheever is not an abolitionist.
A note from Pillsbury on the flap of the envelope indicates that his pen burst in his last letter to May and that he, while he was emphasizing a point, he was not "bellowing too loud."
Envelope includes original postage stamp.
Holograph, signed.
May's handwriting on the envelope reads, "Rec'd June 28 / 59."
