This letter is written in French.
Victor Schoelcher wrote to Mrs. Maria Weston Chapman on July 13 about a "poor and good" black person, in whose behalf he wished her to see a certain lady of his acquaintance. Victor Schoelcher is worried because he has not had a reply. Victor Schoelcher, who is living in exile, complains that Maria W. Chapman's sister was not in touch with him while she was here. Schoelcher comments on the rigidity of English customs and gives an historical explanation of the restrictions imposed on young women. He regrets that Mr. George Thompson lost his seat in Parliament.
