House of Hon. James Russell, built in 1780 (1790?)
Description:
House of Hon. James Russell, built in 1780 (1790?) Built as soon as could by after the fire of 1775, the location was unfortunate, directly on the market-place of a growing town, and it got the popular name of "Russell's Folly." In 1828, Warren Avenue was opened at the left side of it. Meanwhile the Russell family had moved out in 1819. In 1835 it became a public house known as the Mansion House, successively kept his Gorham Bigelow and James Ramsey, until demolished in 1866 and replaced by the southerly part of the Waverly House.
