Bunker Hill Monument showing Monument Square Methodist Church. Three At the left is the house occupied by John Wade Damon (Sawyer pp. 405-8) and purchased in 1863 or so by Capt. Washington Thomas, said to have been the wealthiest man who ever died in Charlestown (Sawyer pp. 409-11); next bought by Patrick O'Riorden. Next house (tall) built by George A. Whiting, and so tall it caused Mr. Damon to move his house at great expense 6 inches from its original position. Third house, #41 Monument Square, built by Abram E. Cutter in 1869 and occupied by him and by his widow sold to St. John's Church for the Rectory.
