Reducing Exercises
- Description:
-
A study which started out in a humorous vein but developed into a drama of light and dark. The picture is as interesting upside down. Gymnastics before retiring are supposed to reduce the flesh. The Husband is contented with his figure. -GB Similar to the first version (M. 21), but with the plump wife in a different position, this is the more finished of the two stones and is the one that was editioned. In 1921, a treatment of the same subject (M. 79) stimulated considerable critical controversy. (Mason)
