24 "Stories" in One Draftee's Letter. When Gerald F. Callahand, 30, elevator operator in the huge Merchandise Mart, was drafted last month he asked his friends to write him a long letter. Either he had more friends than he realized or the people in the building are more literal-minded than most, for this was the result. It already stretches from the building's tower, 24 stories and 340 feet above the street, and these young ladies still show no signs of tiring.
