Letter from Samuel May, Jr., Leicester, [Mass.], to William Lloyd Garrison, Oct[ober] 30 [1872]
Description:
Samuel May, Jr. thanks William Lloyd Garrison for the latter's correction made to the Independent, and returns the edition to him. May opines that Garrison's excoriation of Horace Greeley is "a servere one, and richly-deserved", and asserts that in Greeley is he who would "hold the gates open for the return of the Rebels & pro-slavery Democrats to power over the country they had vainly striven to ruin".
