Second state
The full treatment of the "Shower-Bath" subject was undoubtedly done first. The second state was then pulled after stopping out part of the image with gum arabic. The signature in the stone, upper left, would have been lost in the smaller version, thus necessitating the addition of another signature in the upper left comer of "Shower-Bath, Second State."
