Near the center are four ladies, under an awning, watching vessels in the distance. At the right, a man is seated, holding a newspaper or program. The butterfly, in outline, is below the middle of the plate, near the left edge.

Title from catalogue raisonné.
Kennedy: K. 328
Additional information accompanying item: No. 12 of the Naval Review series. This plate (with 11 others) was etched in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the reign of Queen Victoria, July 27, 1887. The letter he addressed to the Right Honourable W. H. Smith, then first Lord of the Admiralty, in connection with the presentation of this set of etchings to the Queen, gives a good idea of Whistler's "official" style.
