Letter from Enoch Hoag, Uxbridge, [Massachusetts], to Samuel May, 1850 July 20
Description:
Enoch Hoag writes to Samuel May agreeing with May's proposal to hold "one of your 100 conventions in Ux[bridge]." Hoag suggests changing the date to "the 2nd instead of the 3rd week as ... it would suit quite well." He also asks if Wendell Phillips and William Lloyd Garrison could attend the convention, stating that "Phillips has not been here & his name with Garrisons would call a full audence." He then asks May to send him notices for the meeting and instructions, assuring May "they will be properly attended to." Hoag also discusses his political views, identifying himself as a supporter of the Liberty Party and the Free Soil Party, saying he has "always been an admirer of the principles in the main - of the pioneers of this good cause."
