Letter from Russell Lant Carpenter, New York, [New York], to Samuel May, 1850 Feb[ruary] 14
Description:
Russell Lant Carpenter writes to Samuel May sending him "a five dollar bill" after being requested "to pay you £1 from Mr. Estlin." Carpenter says he plans to be in Philadelphia through the first week of March and "should like to see some of your coloured friends" while he is in the city. He asks May to send him "a line or two of introduction" to present to these friends. Carpenter states that after Philadelphia, he plans "to visit Washington and then to take a short run thro' some slave state" as "it may help me to form a more correct judgement than one can hope for at a distance." He also regrets the "difference of opinion" within the American abolitionist movement.
