Letter from Samuel Philbrick, [Boston, Massachusetts], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1849 January 1
Description:
This document creates an "indenture and declaration of trust" between Samuel Philbrick, Francis Jackson, Ellis Gray Loring, and William Lloyd Garrison. It acknowledges that Philbrick, Jackson, and Loring have all received money for Garrison in the past and will likely continue to collect money for him, and so this establishes that they will manage the fund and give "the net income ... to the comfort and benefit of said Garrison, his wife and present & future children ..." It also states that the "actual custody & immediate management of the fund" will be left to the Treasurer and any conflicts between the trustees will be settled by a majority vote. It is then signed by Philbrick, Jackson, Loring, and Garrison. Following the autographs, another note states that Samuel Philbrick has been appointed Treasurer and the fund amounts to $2289.79.
Holograph, signed.
