Letter to Maria Martineau to Richard Davis Webb, [18]63 June 20th
Description:
Maria Martineau writes to R.D. Webb describing her "dismay" at reading Moncure D. Conway's correspondence with James M. Mason to negotiate an end to the American Civil War that appeared in the "Times" of London. Martineau writes that her aunt, Harriet Martineau, wishes to call Webb's attention to the article so he can "disown him (as sanctioned by Abolitionists) in the next Advocate." She also sends Webb a letter reflecting Harriet Martineau's views (not included) that she asks him not to publish.
Holograph, signed.
Title devised by cataloger.
Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper, with the number "65" written in pencil above the salutation.
