Sister Margaret Leonard is Caucasian, born in Massachusetts in 1937 and moved to Dorchester in 1985 as the Executive Director of Project Hope. She has spent her life as part of Little Sisters of Assumption that arrived in Dorchester just after WWII to support families and address the root causes of poverty. Opening their doors to the homeless due to the fires and other crises, Sister Margaret worked on services, organizing, development and advocacy on housing and neighborhood issues. A project of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative and supported by a Mass Humanities project grant, Neighborhood Voices is an oral history project documenting the stories of families living in the Dudley Street neighborhood.
