Arlington Center in 1872 - the above picture of Arlington Center, was taken a little more than fifty years ago from the steeple of First Parish church, but D.G. Alexancer, in the employ of Mr. Davies Dodge. The original was loaned to us by Mr. Henry D. Dodge. e. The above picture originally appeared in "Frank Leslie's Illustrated". In connection with a story describing the parade and other features incident to the celebration of the change of the town name from West Cambridge in Arlington, held June 17, 1860. f. The building in the foreground is the residence of the late George C. Russell, corner of Railroad Ave. It is printed here to show how the avenue has been denuded of beautiful shade treesin the past 30 years; the natural penalty for concrete walks and stone streets. g. Arlington Center in 1897. The above is a view of Arlington center, looing east, from the steeple First Parish church and was taken by Mr. Fred Chase some twenty-five years ago. h. Arlington Center in 1872. The above view of Arlington, looking westward from the steeple of First Parish Church was taken about fifty years ago by D.G. Alexander, in the employ of Mr. Davies Dodge, and was loaned us by Mr. Henry D. Dodge. i. Arlington Center in 1897. This view of Arlington center was taken by Mr. Fred M. Chase in 1896 from the steeple of First Parish church and well illustrates the growth of westerly section of Arlington in 25 years. j. Whittemore House - First post office in town 1912, torn down 1925. k. John Fowle's store - site of soldier harrassment l. Arlington Center Town Hall 1909 m. Arlington House, Built 1826 - Mass Ave and Medford St, torn down in 1925. n. Blake Homestead (now 334 Mass Ave) - torn down in ??? 1925, built in 1808. o. Arlington Center in 1872 In 1872, the building on the right of the above picture occupied the site of Arlington five Cents Savings Bank. In November 1873, the business came into the hands of Mr. L.C. Tyler, and while the Bank Block was builing built it occupied the land where Dr. Harold R. Webb's house now stands. p. First school in now Arlington - Built 1693, Centre district q.
