Naturalist study Polygonatum verticillatum represents the Whorled Solomon's Seal with accuracy and finesse. A leaning stalk and leaves that bend in every direction suggest that Redouté worked from life to create the print, published c. 1808- 1811 for volume five of Les Liliacées. Redouté's variety in tone adds three-dimensionality to the myriad of leaves. Polygonatum verticillatum exudes realism from its vivid colors and attentive shadowing.
