Phil tells Helen that he is back in the United States and he arrived on February 2nd on board the battleship Connecticut. The trip took thirteen days and there was a canteen on board where they could buy candy. They sailed from Brest, France, which is "the worst place in France as far as sanitary conditions are concerned." There is supposed to be an investigation soon into those conditions, and in the seventeen days they spent there it rained on every one. He expects to be discharged in the next two weeks, although the army officials are doing their best to keep them in the service. The amenities at Camp Mills are heaven compared to what they had in France.
