Handwritten record by Stephen Palmer Blake of events during his time at sea. Eight pages, written one-sided, except for page 1, which has the following on reverse: "Typhoon" voyage, Boston to Havana, Aug. 1861 ("Hurricane" separate description inclosed [sic]). The story relates a harrowing episode of a sea jouney from Boston to Havanna, Cuba, in which Blake's ship is caught in a hurricane off the coast of Florida. Heroic efforts by the crew and officers save the ship and all hands. Written by Blake in ink on 8"x10" lined paper. Included in the book, The Life of Stephen Palmer Blake, in chapter titled, "An Unexpected Hurricane, Boston to Havana, Cuba, August 1861," (pp. 345-352).
