This collection of three short stories written by James Thackery (a pseudonym used by an unidentified Nelson brother), is presented as published by the fictitious enterprise, Green and Little, representing the alter egos of Elmer and Arthur Nelson respectively. The first story, "The Fire, or, A Brave Woman Acts," tells of a family's effort to save their house from a fire that had started in the barn. This story is followed by "Fire at the Station," a detailed description of a fire and the financial losses suffered at a newly constructed coal and lumber station. The final story is entitled "The Great Flood, or, My Adventure on the River." This story describes a dangerous flood that occurred near the Hills Brys Dam after a heavy rain.
