Memorial stone marker near the Isenberg School of Management for Joseph B. Flavin (Class of 1953) and Donald V. Marchese (Class of 1959), both of whom received business degrees at UMass. Mr. Flavin was employed at various times by Xerox, IBM and Pfizer Inc. and eventually became chairman and chief executive officer of the Singer Company, overseeing its evolution the world's best-known manufacturer of sewing machines to a military contractor. He received a honorary doctor of laws degree from UMass in 1978 and passed away on October 7, 1987 at the age of 58. Mr. Marchese, of Longmeadow Mass., passed away in 1986. Engraved on the marker is the tribute: "In memory of Joseph Flavin ('53) and Donald Marchese ('59) - They were grateful to their alma mater and served her with dedication - October 31, 1987"
