Item Information
Title:
Me and Rebecca Fullerton in the sub-basement tunnels under the hospital
Description:
The Wolbach Building was a 100-year-old building scheduled to be demolished. The archivists, myself, and Rebecca were given a last chance to go through the sub-basement to look for artifacts or files to save in the archives. There were a series of tunnels connecting the hospital to Harvard Medical School and the old Longwood power plant. Rebecca and I took an opportunity to check them out (under the supervision of the facilities team). The tunnels had been out of use for very many years and it was incredibly dirty, hot, and humid in there. But it was also incredibly fascinating. We felt like adventurers exploring the underbelly of the hospital. The tunnels have now been demolished to make room for the new Hale Family Clinical Building expected to be completed by 2021.
