<mods:abstract>Studio portrait of, clockwise from left, second baseman Bobby Lowe, first baseman Fred Tenney, shortstop Herman Long and third baseman Jimmy Collins.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note>Original title and date accompanying item: Famous Boston Infield of 1900, 1900.</mods:note>
<mods:note>Corrected date based on information supplied by Digital Commonwealth user and verified by library staff, 2021.</mods:note>
<mods:note>Based on an analysis of the uniforms and the fact that Bobby Lowe and Fred Tenney appear clean-shaven, the likely date of the photograph is October 1897. Lowe and Tenney wore mustaches for most of their career but an article in “The Sporting Life” from October 16, 1897 indicates the players agreed to shave if they won the pennant that year (Information supplied by Digital Commonwealth user and verified by library staff, 2021).</mods:note>
