<mods:abstract>John A. McAllister writes William Lloyd Garrison sending to him two sermons preached by the Reverend Dudley A. Tyng, which were delivered in Philadelphia several years past. McAllister states that the first sermon, entitled "Our Country's Troubles", was preached at the Church of the Epiphany on June 29, 1856, and Tyng was dismissed from his rectorship there owing to his strong denonciation of slavery. McAllister states that the second semon was delivered at the Church of the Covenant, and in which Tyng labelled the southern states a "Confederacy", thus "anticipating the title which treason finally assumed". McAllister requests Garrison's opinion of the sermons at his earliest convenience.</mods:abstract>
