  <mods:note>George Clements Lord was the son of George Lord and his wife Olive Jefferds. He married Marion Ruthven Waterston, the daughter of Robert Waterston and Hepsibah Lord, and sister of Rev. Robert Cassie Waterston. Their children were Robert Waterston Lord, Marion Ruthven Lord, Caroline Lucy Lord, and Charles Edward Lord. George's paternal, and Marion's maternal, grandparents were Liuetenant Tobias Lord and his second wife Hepsibah Conant. Was in the shipping business with his brother Charles H. Lord, formed the firm Geo. C. Lord &amp; Co., where they were commission merchants with an office at 73 Long Wharf. Became President of the New England Marine Insurance Co. in 1865.</mods:note>
