Washington Mass Multi Resource Nomination, Washington Mountain Road, Washington. View N.N.W. of site of First Congregational Church. Notes: Built 1773/1792, First meeting house built 1773. The first house may have been on this site or may have been on the town hall site; it was destroyed by lightning 1791, second church built 1792 on this site. Church was abandoned in 1859 because of lack of members, large numbers having moved to Ct, or Ohio. It was later damaged by lightening and then sold and dismantled in 1898.
