<mods:abstract>Entrance to Boyden park, the Bridgewater Normal School campus park and pond. Photograph was taken from Summer Street, looking east.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note type='biographical/historical'>In 1881 Albert G. Boyden, principal of the Bridgewater Normal School, purchased 6 acres of land across Summer Street from the campus with an eye toward the school's future expansion and for the recreational use of the students. Boyden laid out the park, excavated a pond, and built the Ice House. The state of Massachusetts purchased the land from Boyden in 1886. The park was named in honor of Boyden in 1887.</mods:note>
