<mods:abstract>Arnold Buffum writes to William Lloyd Garrison and Isaac Knapp acknowledging his "Draft on the Treasurer of the Society for the ballance [sic] of my account rendered." Buffum discusses the outstanding bills of Liberator subscribers and his efforts to collect them, telling them he is "urging upon the man who distributes the Liberator to collect all the bills that remain unpaid immediately." In order to improve the financial situation of the Liberator, Buffum proposes that the New England Anti-Slavery Society "should make W[illia]m Lloyd Garrison its corresponding secretary and should make the Liberator its official organ and should give to its Editor a Salary of One thousand Dollars a year for his remuneration." He also proposes that Knapp should oversee the distribution of the Liberator and the sale of the paper to their agents in different cities. Buffum asks, "Would not such an arrangement universally adopted relieve the establishment of its embarrassment and enable it to go on smoothly and what objection is there to such an arrangement?"</mods:abstract>
