<mods:abstract>George Thompson writes to William Lloyd Garrison announcing his family's arrival in the country and reporting that while he was "warmly greeted by the abolitionists of this city" he was "somewhat curiously received by the other dwellers." He shares his plan to travel to Boston and asks for advice "as to the best place for the settlement of my family." Thompson states that he had "a pleasant voyage of 34 days" and that he "feel[s] that I could love this land and its people with all my heart were but oppression banished." He also congratulates Garrison on his recent marriage and says that he has been busy at the Custom House with "a silver salver presented by the Ladies of Glasgow to Miss [Prudence] Crandall [having] attracted special attention."</mods:abstract>
