<mods:abstract>William Robson writes to William Lloyd Garrison stating, "Your abolition summer is verily at hand. Your harvest is ripening apace." Robson expresses his belief that "a separation of the states in inevitable" claiming that when he visited Garrison he saw "that the separation of the states must be the first track of your Emancipation labours, & would precede the End." He compares the secession of Southern states to the movement to repeal the Corn Laws in England, arguing that the "result is proved to be a gain to all parties." Robson then exclaims, "Oh how unworthy the American nation is of its origin & progress." He forsees divine punishment for slavery in America, predicting, "the coming of the Lord ... to break in pieces your nations covenant with death & your agreement with hell ..." Robson then asks about their mutual friend, Henry C. Wright, and Garrison's family, specifically Fanny [Garrison Villard] and Frank [Jackson Garrison]. He also tells Garrison that S[arah]. P[arker]. Remond's has been lecturing in England and Scotland during her Christmas vacation and encloses a draft of "the contribution of Warrington friends to the great cause for the current year" (not included).</mods:abstract>
