<mods:abstract>Gerrit Smith writes to William Lloyd Garrison discussing an article in the Liberator about the Liberty Party convention, saying Garrison has "been misinformed." Smith relays the names of some speakers at the convention, including Frederick Douglass, and claims he wanted to vote for [John P.] Hale and Julian. Smith then shares his opinions of the convention, telling Garrison that he is "not willing to vote for an untrue man." He also states the next Liberty Party convention will be held September 30th, where he expects "Goodell & Foote" to receive the nomination. In the postscript, Smith writes, "I hoped to see you at the ... Womens Rights Convention."</mods:abstract>
