This is a portrait of Willard S. Richardson (July 30, 1866—1952), an alumni of the International YMCA Training School, now called Springfield College, from the class of 1891. As this photograph is from Ohio, we believe it was taken around 1889 as part the application process for Springfield College.

Richardson was born in Painesville, Ohio and attended Denison University for two years. He also studied at the University of Rochester, worked at Springfield College, worked at Columbia University, and received his B.D. from the Union Theological Seminary in 1897. From 1894-1909, he worked as the assistant pastor at a Baptist church in New York City. He later joined the advisory staff to John D. Rockefeller, Jr., and was secretary for the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial in New York City. Richardson served on the Board of Trustees at Springfield College and the American Institute of Christian Philosophy. In 1938, Springfield College presented him the Tarbell Medallion, an award for alumni who have demonstrated varied outstanding service to their alma mater.
