Item Text: We were at Daisy Buchanan's, when we heard and then heard and felt the explosions. Pretty immediately, people were running and screaming down Fairfield towards the water. I moved to the back of the bar and outside to their patio, where I could still hear screams, and increasing sirens and smell the smoke. We stayed in the basement and watched the first reports on the bar tvs, not wanting to run out into the chaotic streets. Then policemen came to the corner, told us that they had found another unexploded bomb, and that we should evacuate. We ran into the mob outside and made our way towards the water.
Notes (acquisition):
This story was collected by the Boston Globe in the days immediately following the Boston Marathon Bombing. GlobeLab collected these anonymous stories on the Boston.com website and donated them to the Our Marathon Archive. We are grateful for this contribution, which gives insight into how Bostonians and visitors to the city understood the bombing events in their immediate aftermath.
