Mourning picture for Mary Locke Whittemore The picture depicts a woman with dark hair, wearing a white dress and a black shawl, facing left with a branch of leaves in her right hand. There is a church and some houses on the right side and some more buildings on the left side of the picture. Picture is made from a combination of paint and embroidery. The foreground, including the woman's clothes, branch, urn, and tree, as well as the ground they are on, is embroidered, as is the river. The inscription is written in ink. The woman's body and hair is painted, as is the entire background, including the lake, buildings, mountains, and sky.
