Letter sent from Peterborough, New Hampshire from Rev Abiel Abbot to his grandson Samuel Abbot Smith, at the time a student at Harvard. Abbot starts out the letter by noting that some of his grandson's letters have not arrived, and wondering if he should send the letters in the express bag instead, before warning him that he should only do so if legal, and that cheating the mail system is as bad as cheating anybody. He continues by discussing the importance of physical education and posture, and recommends that Samuel talk to the health conservator at the College. He also discusses the importance of being able to speak well. The last page of the letter mentions local matters and daily life. Good quality color xerox of the original letter.
