A message to our neighbors on the day of evacuation
Description:
Christian churches of Hayward expressing sympathies to Japanese Americans on their evacuation. "We are sure that you are going to do your best to help make the burden of leaving as light as you can. We are truly thankful that all of us are agreed that in this tragic time we must behave as Christians so that when the dark days are over we will be able to make a better world in which we can all live and work in good will. There was too little time for our churches to get together and do more, but please avail yourselves of our services and go away happy in the thought that even war cannot destroy the love which God has spread abroad in the hearts of his faithful people." Manuscript note at bottom indicates six churches were involved, serving coffee, pastries, and sandwiches, and oranges to 620 Japanese.
