<mods:abstract>William Hatfield Born in Springfield, Mass._Son of William Hatfield_By occupation a Painter_Married_At the age of 30 years, on July 11, 1863, enlisted for 3 years in the 2d Reg. Massachusetts Heavy Artillery_Mustered july 29, 1863, and assigned to Company “B”. Rank Private with no subsequent changes._ Participated in all the operations of his Reg. till discharged. Rec’d a furlough, on account of death in his family, from Aug. 13 to Sept. 7, 1864. On detached duty as Post painter at Ft. {???}, N.C., for nine months and for three months at Newport Barracks, N.C. Rec’d no wounds, was not sick. Discharged 29 Sept., 1865, at {Galloupis} Island, Boston Harbor. Died in Chicopee Falls, April 24, 1905.</mods:abstract>
