'Crew of the U-66 German sub that was sunk by the U.S.S. Buckley DE51 in 1944, off the Cape Verde Islands. The crew of the Buckley rescued the German survivors of the sub and took this photo when the POWs were transferred to the U.S.S. Block Island. Several of those German survivors met with 3 Buckley crew at a German reunion in Frankfort, Germany in September 1987. Pictured: 1st row 2nd from left is Vinzenz Nosch, who donated photo.
