Framing of new wing at the Unitarian Church of Sharon
Description:
'The middle of the construction phase for the A.I.M. (Accessibility and Improvements to the Meetinghouse) project of the Unitarian Church of Sharon is captured in this scene. The historic meetinghouse is to the left with classic white columns and siding. The cinder block structure just to the right is the core of the elevator shaft, which is the centerpiece of the project, to provide full access to all floors of the building. The roof and trusses being worked on are the new offices, library and classrooms of the addition which were desperately needed by the growing congregation. To the right are the limbs of one of a pair of copper beech trees on the lawn of the church, perennial climbing zones for generations of U.U. youth. The American flag in the foreground is somewhat misleading, as it is part of the town's lighting system along North Main Street, and its placement in this picture was thanks to artful photography by the unknown artist. (Contractor for the project was Dennis Digiaudo Corp.). Location: Meetinghouse Green, Town Center.'
