Bracket from the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, taken from the ruins after the fire. Two large pieces of wood joined together: rectangular base with curved upright, roughly triangular. Not symetrical, one side of upright appears to be broken. Painted white, with paint cracking in a regular lined pattern. Fairly light but delicate. In the letter accompanying the bracket, Mr. Smurzynski wrote: This document accompanies a relic from the church building of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Arlington, Massachusetts, that burned to the ground on March 7, 1975, as it was being refurbished for the Bicentennial of 1975. The church building had been constructed in 1856. It was the fourth church building on the site. As a member of the church, I visited it after the fire destroyed it. Amongst the debris at the site, a day or two later, I found the piece I would like the Society to have. The piece appears to be a bracket that supported the overhanging roof of the church."In the letter accompanying the bracket, Mr. Smurzynski wrote: This document accompanies a relic from the church building of the First Parish Unitarian Universalist of Arlington, Massachusetts, that burned to the ground on March 7, 1975, as it was being refurbished for the Bicentennial of 1975.
