  <mods:abstract>In this draft of a biographical speech, Du Bois touches on the major milestones of his life. Topics include his childhood in Western Massachusetts, education at Fisk and Harvard, research and writing, founding of the Niagara Movement, membership in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, editorship of The Crisis, participation in Pan-African Congresses, poems and plays, Progressive Party membership, editorship of the Encyclopedia Africana and work as a leader in the American peace movement. Additions to this draft include the development of his theory of the necessity of propaganda and a mention of two of his current projects: a comparative study of the United States and the Soviet Union and a novel which will continue Black Reconstruction in fictional form from 1876-1954.</mods:abstract>
