This round covered basket is woven from narrow ash splints and braided sweetgrass. The body is formed from naturally colored and dyed green and red splinits alternating in a "wicker"-type weave structure. The lip of the body and of the lid are embellished with braided sweetgrass woven in a series of tight twists or curlicues. A sweetgrass braided ring forms the lid handle at its center. The base rises from the edge to the center on the interior. This basket is of Native American manufacture, probably for the tourist souvenir trade.
